  Red Rabbit

A sampling of music from Red Rabbit‘s 2016 CD, Excessive Sobriety, and their complete 2017 EP, Pushing Off the Bottom.  All songs on both were recorded and mixed at YGWYPF Studio.  These songs were recorded in a classic studio fashion – the rhythm section was recorded first and the the other instruments and vocals were laid down separately over the rhythm tracks.  See more about Red Rabbit at http://redrabbitband.com/.

From the Excessive Sobriety CD, Soft Landing, Nothing At All, A Whole Lot More and The Secret Seashore are original compositions by J.A. Purvis, guitarist, singer and Music Czar for Red RabbitCity of New Orleans is the Red Rabbit take on the 1971 song by Steve Goodman, covered in 1972 by Arlo Guthrie and later by others.  Monster is a cover of the 1969 political commentary by Steppenwolf.  (If you think anything has changed you just haven’t been paying attention!)  To learn more about Excessive Sobriety and the personnel featured on the CD go to http://redrabbitband.com/ExcessiveSobriety.htm.

Roughouse

This is a composite of excerpts from several songs recorded at YGWYPF Studio.  Roughouse is a seven piece blues/rock band featuring guitars, harmony vocals and accenting keyboards.  The recording approach Roughouse used was to record all tracks live.  The drums and amplifiers were mic’d and recorded individually; the bass and keyboard was recorded direct and the vocals were sang live and broadcast over a PA while the band performed.  In a live recording with the band in the same room, track bleed was inevitable through the live mics.  However, the close micing on the instruments enabled very good separation in the mix.  Check out more about Roughouse on their Facebook site, https://www.facebook.com/Roughouse-Indy-387281905342120/.

Chasing Katie

This is a composite of excerpts from several songs recorded at YGWYPF Studio.  Chasing Katie is the classic power trio instrumentation (guitar, drums and bass) with a lead singer.  The approach Chasing Katie used was to record all tracks live.  The drums and amplifiers were mic’d and recorded individually; the vocals were sang live and broadcast over a PA while the band performed.  In a live recording with the band in the same room, track bleed was inevitable through the live mics.  However, the close mic’ing on the instruments enabled very good separation in the mix.  Check out more about Chasing Katie on their Facebook site, https://www.facebook.com/ChasingKatieIndy/.

  45 RPM

This is a composite of excerpts from several songs recorded at YGWYPF Studio.  45 RPM used a hybrid approach – the instruments were all recorded live at the same time, then the vocals were added later in a separate session.  In a live recording with the band in the same room, track bleed was inevitable through the live mics.  However, the close mic’ing on the instruments enabled very good separation in the mix.  Check out more about 45 RPM at https://www.45rpm60s.com/.
